Setting up a store on a global platform takes an afternoon. Making that store comply with your country’s electronic invoicing, accept the payment methods your customer actually uses and ship with local carriers… that can take months of plugins, workarounds and frustration.
It’s the gap almost nobody tells you about before you start: eCommerce is global, but commerce is local.
The three walls of local eCommerce
1. Electronic invoicing
In Colombia, the DIAN requires electronic invoicing with precise technical specs; every country in the region has its own equivalent. Global platforms don’t solve it out of the box: you depend on third-party plugins that break with every update, or on manual processes that turn each sale into accounting work.
The typical outcome: the business sells online but invoices by hand. The “automation” stopped halfway.
2. The payments your customer actually uses
International credit cards are not how most of Latin America pays. PSE, Nequi, cash on delivery, MercadoPago, Wompi — if your checkout doesn’t offer the method your customer uses daily, the sale dies at the last step.
Integrating local gateways alongside global options like Stripe requires a platform that truly allows it — not through redirect chains that scare buyers away.
3. Last-mile logistics
Servientrega, TCC, Envía, local couriers: the region’s real logistics don’t appear in global platforms’ integration directories. Quoting shipments, generating labels and tracking packages ends up as yet another manual process.
Why we built NexoShop
After watching dozens of merchants fight these three walls, we decided to build the platform we would use ourselves: NexoShop, our SaaS eCommerce platform designed for local commerce.
- First-class local accounting: DIAN electronic invoicing, regional taxes and automatic fiscal reports — a native module, not a plugin.
- Payments the way your customer pays: Wompi, MercadoPago and Stripe integrated from the start.
- Regional logistics: local carriers connected for quoting, labeling and tracking without leaving the panel.
- Zero commissions per sale: your margin stays yours.
Merchants like FacilTec (tech) and Be.Starzs (fashion) are already onboarding.
What if your operation is truly unique?
Some businesses don’t fit any platform, not even a regional one: complex pricing rules, B2B with credit lines, catalogs with thousands of variants. For those cases there’s custom development: building exactly the system your operation needs, integrated with your real accounting and logistics.
The signal for choosing your path: if your “exceptions” are few, a good local platform will serve you; if the exceptions are your business, you need your own software.
